角接觸球軸承的基本結(jié)構(gòu)有一對套圈、一組鋼球、一個保持架。該軸承可以同時承受徑向負荷，也可以承受純徑向負荷，能在較高的轉(zhuǎn)速下工作。
單列角接觸軸承只能承受一個方向的軸向負荷。在承受徑向負荷時，將引起附加軸向力，并且只能限制軸或外殼在一個方向的軸向位移。若是成對安裝，使一對軸承的外圈相同端面相對，即寬端面對寬端面，窄端面對窄端面。這樣即可避免 引起附加軸向力，而且可在兩個方向使軸或外殼限制在軸向油隙范圍內(nèi)。
角接觸球軸承的裝球數(shù)量比深溝球的軸承多，因而負荷容量在球軸承中最大，鋼性也強，運轉(zhuǎn)平穩(wěn)。可以利用內(nèi)外圈相互位移調(diào)整徑向油隙，并可將幾套軸承并聯(lián)造成預過盈，提高系統(tǒng)的鋼性。
該類軸承的特點是在正常工作狀態(tài)下鋼球與內(nèi)圈和外圈溝道接觸點的法線與軸線的垂直平面呈一個夾角，即接觸角。接觸角的大小，決定軸承工作時所能承受的徑向力和軸向力的大小，接觸角越大，承受的軸向負荷能力也越大。
